A 21-year-old man was care flighted to a hospital in the Tyler area during the weekend after an aggravated assault in Blossom resulted in serious head injuries, according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 24, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at an apartment complex on Park Street in Blossom.
When deputies arrived on the scene they found that a Mykal Jones had been care flighted to a hospital with critical injuries, but were given conflicting stories on how the victim was found and what had occurred.
“A CID sheriff investigator interviewed several witnesses on scene and learned that there had been a disturbance between the victim and a David McCoy Chumbley, where Chumbley assaulted the victim by striking him in the head area causing him to fall into a coffee table,” Sheriff Cass said.
Due to these head injuries the victim remains in critical condition at the Tyler area hospital.
Deputies arrested Chumbley for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He now awaits arraignment in the Lamar County Jail.
