Mrs. Stroup was born November 5, 1909 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Thomas E. and Mary P. Myers Kelley. She was a registered nurse, serving in both the former St. Joseph’s and Lamar County hospitals. Her favorite area to work and assist was in the surgery department. She was a school nurse in Paris and Lamar County for six years. In 1956 Nita retired from fulltime work. A lover of golf, she enjoyed countless hours of the game, many enjoyed by she and her husband Vernon Stroup, before his passing.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse of a lifetime Vernon; and four siblings.
In retirement years, she and Vernon found the energy to foster a family of three wonderful children, who were in their teens. Thompson, Jr.; four grandchildren, Jay Thomas Daniels, Julie Anne Stutz, Jeffrey Stroup Daniels, and John Harrison Daniels; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Daniels Stutz and Jacob Herman Stutz; a sister, Sarah Baughn, of Mission Viejo, California; and several nieces, nephews and their spouses.
