Mary Jurene Armstrong, 74, of Sumner, passed away Monday, September 02, 2013.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Duane Hamil officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jurene, the daughter of Vollie E. & Allie Favors Garrison, was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Paris. On Aug. 1, 1959, she married Will C. Armstrong, building forty-five years of family and memories before his death on Oct. 16, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents & a brother, Dewayne Garrison.
She was a faithful member of Maxey Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and cleaned the church until her health failed. She worked for Dr. Parchman after completing high school and later worked at Cherry Street Manor, at Dr. Jones’ office, and the post office at Sumner.
Survivors include one son, Will Armstrong, Jr. & wife Missy of Sumner, two daughters, Dani Jones & husband Kirby of Bonham and Laura Oosterloo & husband Alto of Broken Arrow, OK, grandchildren; Chancey Stevens & husband Chris, Elissa Armstrong, Beau Dillon, Bryce Jones, Erin Jones, Rachael Oosterloo and Leah Oosterloo, great grandchildren; Cayla Stevens, Cody Stevens, Dalyn Johnson and Cortlyn Johnson, three sisters, Vella Risinger & husband Billy of the Mt. Olive Community, Theda Owens & husband James of Paris and Linda Whitaker & husband Jim of Wills Point, two brothers, Jerry Garrison & wife Coramae of Paris and Bobby Garrison of Dallas, a sister-in-law, Peggy Garrison of Ft. Worth along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
Casket bearers will be: Beau Dillon, Bryce Jones, Chris Stevens, Rick Johnson, James Lloyd Armstrong and Steve Garrison.
In a letter left for her family, Jurene said, “When I’m dead and gone, I hope people can say about me, “she was a Godly woman and her house was a home.”
