Virginia Lee Reavis, 73, of Arthur City went to be with the Lord and to fish in the big lake in the sky on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
The family has scheduled a graveside memorial service at noon on Saturday, Sept 14th at Red Hill Cemetery. Following the service there will be a family & friends gathering at the Chicota Community Center. Cremation services were under the direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home.
She was born May 20, 1940, to Thurman Lee & Ruby Faye Reavis in Tripp, Texas.
She leaves behind five children: Debbie Brummett & Darrel Pierce of Chicota, Pam Brummett & James Black of Arthur City, Sandy Godsey & fiancé Travis Sawyer of Itasca, Tammy & Rodney Green of Mabank and Danny Godsey & fiancé Chris of Paris, three brothers, Eddie Reavis & wife Gladys of Deport, Thurman “Butch” Reavis & wife Linda of Powderly and Gary Don Reavis & Rita Reavis of Mabank, four sisters, Nina Reavis Cason & husband Philip of Princeton, Donna Reavis & fiancé Randy Toon of Van Alstyne, Nancy Reavis Saldana & husband Louis of Rockwall, and Linda Rae Reavis Jones & husband Gerry of Welling, OK, 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews whom she loved with all her heart, and her dear friend, Charlie Canida. She will be missed. She had many names, Jen, Mother, Granny, and Nanny 2.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Faye & Thurman Reavis, and a brother, Charles Reavis.

Monte Kurt Ramsey, 51, of Powderly, was called home to Heaven, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at his home.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Kurt, the son of Zoel & Mary Freeman Ramsey, was born Jan. 5, 1962, in Paris.
He graduated from North Lamar High School in 1980, and on Feb. 4, 1980, he joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 3, 1987, with the rank of Sergeant.
On May 26, 1984, he married Robbie Newberry, building twenty-nine years of family and memories. He was a 3rd generation house mover, always active in the family business, Ramsey House Moving & Leveling, helping move his first house at the age of six. In 2010, he began working as a truck driver for R. K. Hall Construction where he remained employed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wylie & Opal Ramsey and Lester & Lala Freeman and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Odee Newberry and Violet Pierce.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie, his parents, Zoel & Mary Ramsey of Powderly, two sons, Chas Ramsey & Kaleb Ramsey both of the home, brothers, Lynn Ramsey & wife Barbara of Hugo, OK and Ben Ramsey & wife Jeannie of Paris, a sister, Bronis Ramsey of Paris, sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Melvia Strickland of Paris, Della O’Neal & husband Mike of Paris, Bruce Westbrook of Palestine, Haskell Newberry & John McCall of Dallas and George Newberry & wife Carol of Paris, an uncle, Lucky Ramsey of Pecan Gap, two aunts, Myrna Pendleton and Iris Rainey both of Paris along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Casket bearers will be: Mike O’Neal, Haskell Newberry, George Newberry, Justin O’Neal, Lonnie Elrod, Jesse Newberry, Jeremy Newberry and Lawrence Coward. Honorary bearers will be: Judd Bivens, James “Peanut” Ferrell, Wayne “Woody” McCary, Anthony “Six” Braxton and Stan Thurman.

Lillie Verdell Holcomb, 87, of Hopewell, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family, Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Cook and ministers, Brad Sullivan, her grandson & Justin Golden, her great grandson officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Holcomb, the daughter of Elvin Clark & Phoebe Lucille Craven Tingle, was born July 6, 1926, in Lamar County.
On July 7, 1943, she married James Eldon Holcomb, building sixty-four years of family and memories before his death on Sept. 24, 2007.
She worked several years at Nahas and at Hollywood Vasarette before opening the County Cottage Ceramic Shop. There she sold ceramics to the public as well as taught ceramics. She was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church.
Her parents and an infant sister, Melba Ethna Tingle, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Llwanda Golden & husband Bill of Paris, Gary Holcomb & wife Leta of Hopewell and Elda Francis & husband Brad of Hopewell, grandchildren: Greg Golden & wife Jeri Lynn, Roger Golden & wife Suzanne, Paul Golden & wife Dana, Shane Holcomb, Jenny Sullivan & husband Brad and Ashley Bryan & husband Paul, great grandchildren: Justin Golden, Becky Narron, Katy Golden, Sarah Golden, Clair Sullivan and Cora Sullivan, a sister, Laura Carroll of Hopewell, a brother, Bobby Tingle & wife Martha of Hopewell along with nieces & nephews.
Verdell was a kind, caring and giving person who always tried to take care of her family and friends. She loved to sew, make quilts, raise a garden, can the vegetables out of the garden and make jams and jellies.
She wanted to pass along the art of quilting and along with her sister-in-law, Martha Tingle, helped to start the Thimble and Thread Quilting Group at Oak Park Methodist Church. She loved to bake and was known among her family for her famous pineapple cake, her Christmas fruit cakes and among her church family for her Italian cream cake.
The last few years she had made her home at Springlake Assisted Living where she loved to play dominoes with two special friends there – Vernon Sims and Exa Fortner.
The family wishes to thank many who helped to care for Verdell: Dr. Sid White and his kind staff, Springlake Assisted living and all the caring staff who helped her through each day, May’s Home Health and May’s Hospice, with special thanks to Emma Freeman who provided such loving care to her through several surgeries and illnesses. The family will always be grateful to each and everyone of you.
