On Saturday, to celebrate their grand opening and ribbon cutting, WingStop held a ‘celebrity’ wing-eating contest at their newly opened location at 3955 Lamar Ave.

Participating in the contest for eParis was Sports Editor Greg Higgins.

“They wanted people in the competition that are known around Paris,” Higgins said. “Someone gave them my name and they called me to ask if I’d participate.”

Being from Buffalo, NY — the home of the Buffalo wing — it’s safe to say Greg has an appetite for wings, which propelled him to take the first place prize in the contest.

The rules were simple. Each contestant started with ten of WingStop’s ‘original hot, bone-in’ wings and fries. The first person to eat all the wings and the fries completely would win a $75 gift card.

The competition started, and within about five minutes Higgins had completed the task. It took another few minutes for the second and third place winners to finish.

“With relatives in Buffalo, what do you expect,” Higgins asked after the contest? “I’m ready for some more.”

Others participating in the ‘celebrity’ wing-eating competition with Higgins was Dylan’s Drivers founders Ronnie and Vickie Ballard, DD executive director Paul Allen, Dewayne Oliver, Brian Hargis and others.

Along with the wing-eating contest, WingStop had a bounce house, cotton candy, face painting and an extensive raffle with prizes from many local businesses. They also celebrated a Chamber ribbon cutting earlier that morning.

All the proceeds garnished from the festivities and 10% of their profits for the entire day went to support Dylan’s Drivers.

“They are a great organization,” WingStop general manager Ty Hale said. “We really wanted something that the community rallies behind. Dylan’s Drivers supports a great cause.”
