The countywide burn ban that has been in effect was lifted by County Commissioners on Monday morning during Commissioners’ Court.
County officials still urge safety when burning outdoors, whereas, despite the recent rain and snow, some of the vegetation in areas could still have little moisture.
Although here lately it wouldn’t seem so, our climate on average usually stays pretty dry, and several consecutive sunny days with no precipitation could quickly lead to conditions again unsuitable for outdoor burning.
Without the proper precautions while burning outdoors, there could still be a chance for a fire to accidentally spread, despite the burn ban being lifted.
Keep in mind the following safety tips:
- Keep your fire at a controlled size — a large fire could easily spread out of control
- Remove all fuels or combustibles from the burning area
- Limit outdoor burning on windy days
- Do not use gasoline to start your fire
- If possible, use a ‘fire pit’ or designated burning area
- Avoid putting fires under canopies
- Do not leave fires unattended
- If your outdoor fire does get out of control, immediately call 9-1-1, so that the flames can be contained
