Woman arrested after stabbing girlfriend; More thefts reported – Paris PD Press Release – February 4

Paris Police arrested a woman this weekend, after she allegedly stabbed her girlfriend during an argument, according to Paris PD Public Information Officer Curtis Garrett.

Karita Leann Tonihka, 34, of Paris, was arrested when Officers were summoned to a residence in the 1400 block of NE 26th Street in reference to an aggravated assault.  The victim told police that she had been stabbed by her girlfriend during an argument.

PoliceTonihka admitted to stabbing the victim and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident is still under investigation.

At 6:49 A.M. on February 01, officers responded to the report of a vehicle theft in the 300 block of SW 16th Street. Officers were advised that the vehicle was unlocked and running to warm up, due to the cold temperatures. The victim stated that they heard 2 doors shut and then the vehicle leave.

After a police search, the vehicle was located several hours later in Durant, Oklahoma, according to Garrett.

Officers met with a complainant in the lobby of the Police Department on February 02, where it was reported that they had been threatened by a known person. The victim advised that while they were at Gene’s Flea Market, the suspect made threatening statements about killing the victim. While making the threats, the suspect showed the victim an outline inside of their jacket that appeared to be a firearm. The victim left the flea market and drove to the Police Department to report the incident.

Marcus Dale Smallwood was arrested in the 1100 block of Clement Road after it was reported that he had been seen coming out of a building, while the owner chased him. Officers located Smallwood as he was attempting to crawl under a fence. He was arrested and charged with burglary of a building and also had an outstanding parole warrant.

Over the past 72 hours, Paris Police arrested 19 persons while responding to 286 calls for service.
