PJC Continuing Education Offers New Classes
Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department is offering two new courses in March – one for general industry and one for personal enrichment. Unless otherwise stated, all courses are in the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center.
Completing the ten-hour course on Occupational Safety and Health Administration training for general industry will allow the student to be issued a wallet card certificate of completion. This course is offered Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 22-23.
Home Repair Made Easy is the other new offering. Learn how to complete home repairs and do it right the first time. Safely use power tools including a table saw, miter saw, sabre saw and air nail guns. Become the “handy man” around your house. The course is offered on Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Childcare
A Child Care Workshop will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. Designed for all childcare employees, the class meets Texas continuing education requirements of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The caregiver training offers the newest techniques with children’s behaviors and latest findings on child development.
Health
The Initial Basic Life Support class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 1. It will be repeated from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The American Hearth Association certifies the class.
Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays – Thursdays, March 4-27. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.
Pharmacy Technician will be held 6 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, March 4 to April 29. This class prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.
The Physical Therapy Technician class introduces students to the profession and trains them for an entry-level position as a physical therapy technician. The class meets from 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from March 18 through May 13.
Computer
The Microsoft Access Essentials database class will meet from 6-8 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, March 19-28. This program is used to manage data that is organized into lists such as customer information, products, inventory, sales, vendors and more.
A Microsoft Excel Essentials class will be offered on the electronic spreadsheet application. The course will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. March 18-27.
Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 6-8 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, March 18-27. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.
Microsoft Word Essentials will meet from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19-28. The class gives an overview of the word processing program.
Track inventory and handle payroll with Quick Books Level 2: Beyond the Basics. The course is offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 19 through April 2.
Driving
A Driver’s Education class approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety meets from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 4-April 4.
The Defensive Driving Course will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 9.
Oversize Load Pilot Car Training will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, March 9-16. Training covers requirements for pilot car drivers, routing, safety, equipment and techniques for guiding oversize loads.
Language
Spanish for Fun is offered from 6:30-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 18-April 3.
Parenting
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
