NLHS TAEA Visual Art StudentsOn February 23, North Lamar art students participated in the UIL equivalent regional Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) Visual Arts Scholastic Event Competition at Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana. Those receiving gold medals for their outstanding artwork kneeling from left are Puja Mistry, Ravi Mistry and Melissa Williams; standing are Presley Edwards, Rynn Hamilton, Coulton Chumbley and Yen Phi Le.

The judging process includes a one-on-one interview with a judge, during which students verbally defend the merit of their work. Judges then evaluate the artwork based on the student’s intent, aesthetic judgments, technique, and personal expression. Student artwork that scores a 4, as the standard of excellence, receive a gold medal.
