Richard A. Varner, 93, of the Faught Community, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Varner was born on February 21, 1920, in Pinhook, Texas, the oldest son of Arthur Gillum and Mary Samantha Fendley Varner. He retired, after 20 years, from International Harvester as a salesman. He had previously worked for Swift and Company. He was a member of the PentecostalChurch.
On December 26, 1939 he married Gladys Marie Clarkson in Paris. Mr. & Mrs. Varner celebrated 73 plus years of happy family memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harmon, Troy and Junior, sisters Gladys Goforth, Juanita Watson, and Hazel Doss.
Mr. Varner is survived by his wife Gladys Marie Varner; brother-in-law Randle Clarkson; special niece Sandra Goff Griffin; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with James Varner and Steve Varner officiating. Burial will follow in the SpringhillCemetery with Mike McHam, Frank McHam, Rhett Clarkson, Mark Bates, Tanner Goff, Rick Goforth, Michael Griffin and Dean Rawlinson serving as pallbearers.
