Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department is offering a new fitness course in April as well as a country and western dance course for those wanting to be in better shape for spring.
Low impact aerobics will be offered at the PJC Recreation Center. This course provides a fun way to increase cardio, strength and flexibility for beginners and seniors and will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 2 to May 23.
Get moving in a different way with the favorite Country and Western Dance, designed to teach several different dances and make someone comfortable with getting out on the dance floor. Bringing a partner is encouraged but not required. The class is from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday, April 2-16.
Another new class – OSHA 511 for General Industry – will focus on Occupational Safety and Health Agency policies, procedures and standards, with special emphasis on the most hazardous areas. The course meets 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, April 9-12.

CHILDCARE
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
FITNESS
Fitness Swim will meet 6-7 a.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from April 2-May 24, at the PJC Recreation Center. The course will improve swimming efficiency and endurance through drills, sprints, timed and distance swims.
HEALTH
The Initial Basic Life Support teaches lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies and meets from 5:30-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 1-2. The course repeats on Saturday, April 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The American Hearth Association certifies the class.
Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders is offered from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday, April 5. The course is also offered from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
Medication Aide Update will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 12. The course content fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, April 1-17. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.
COMPUTER
Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 10 a.m. to12 p.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16-25. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.
The Microsoft Access Essentials database class will meet from 6-8 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, April 2-11. This program is used to manage data that is organized into lists such as customer information, products, inventory, sales, vendors and more.
A Microsoft Excel Intermediate class will meet from 6-8 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, April 1-10. Training covers advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and automate worksheet tasks.
Microsoft Word Intermediate will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 2-11. Students will learn advanced formatting techniques to enhance documents.
Windows, an Introduction, giving an overview of using the Windows operating system, meets from 6-8 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday from April 15-24.
DRIVING
A Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets 4-6 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays from April 8 through May 2.
The Defensive Driving Course will meet from 6-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16.
Professional Truck Driving I is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 3-16. This class offers hands-on skill and development and instruction coordinated with the Department of Transportation.
Professional Truck Driving II is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 17-30. Basic and advanced skills drill and safe operating practices for shifting and backing are included in this class.
PHOTOGRAPHY
A Digital Photography class will be offered from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, April 23-May 2. This is an introductory course to digital imaging.
PERSONAL ENRICHMENT
Basic Gemstone Faceting teaches how to saw and shape rough gem materials into finished stones. The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30-7:30 p.m. from April 1-April 24.
