
North Lamar Special Olympics Team is set to compete at the state meet in Arlington at the end of May. North Lamar High School Special Olympics team competed at Cedar Hill on Saturday, April 27 to bring home eight gold medals. Preparing for state and placing first in their categories were Gabby Smith in Mini Turbo Javelin and 100 Meter Dash, Jamie Hofer in the 400 Meter Run, Josh Clark in the Softball Throw, Joshua Johnson in the 100 Meter Dash, Susie Stewart in the 100 Meter Walk, Joey Klabber in the 100 Meter Dash, and Helena Dyck in the Tennis Ball Throw.
Individual silver medal winners were Jamie Hofer in Shot Put, Amber Morris in the Softball Throw, Josh Clark in the 100 Meter Dash, Joshua Johnson in the Mini Turbo Javelin, Joey Klabber in the Softball Throw, Adam Blackmon in Mini Turbo Javelin, and Helena Dyck in the 100 Meter Walk. The Boys Relay Team of Clark, Johnson, Klabber, andMichael Thomas also brought in a second place ribbon.
Winning a bronze medal in the Standing Long Jump was Susie Stewart. Fourth place individual category winners in the 100 Meter Dash were Michael Thomas and Adam Blackmon. The Girls Relay Team of Smith, Hofer, Morris, and Stewart came in fourth.
The North Lamar team will go on to compete at the 2012 Special Olympics Texas Summer Games on May 23-26 at the University of Texas at Arlington Maverick Stadium. Coaches for the team are Head Coach Paula Liles, Sherry Kuhl, Irene Leija, and Jackie Mosley.
