Rast and LaVoy named NLISD Teachers of the Year

North Lamar Independent School District held a banquet to honor employees who have served the school district and who have made a difference to students and co-workers throughout the year.

Superintendent James A. Dawson and Assistant Superintendent Shelley McDowell named the district’s teachers of the year, recognized employee years of service, honored retirees, and presented special awards.

Top recognitions went to Diedra Rast who was named Secondary Teacher of the Year and Melissa LaVoy who was named Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Teachers representing their campuses were interviewed for the district’s high honors.  Those named on their campus were Carol Sherwood – North Lamar High School, Rast – Stone Middle School, Angelia Kennedy – Bailey Intermediate, LaVoy – Aaron Parker Elementary, Wendy Suttle – Everett Elementary, and Candi White – Higgins Elementary.

Recipients of the district special awards were Celina Johns – Auxiliary of the Year, Laura Christian – Support Staff of the Year, Debbie Allred – Paraprofessional of the Year, and Jared Reaves – Regular Educator of the Year.

Honored and receiving pins for their years of service were: 40 years – Alden George;

30 years – Sonja Carter, Cathey Page and Cynthia Thompson; 25 years – Liala Brakebill, Charlotte Cline, Beth Edwards, Mary Ann Franklin, Pam Garrison, Misty LeFlore, Cindy McDowell, and Carla Moffitt; 20 years – Mandy Barnett, Debbie Basden, Maureen Gordon,

Janie Logee, Jana Mitchell, Wes Pope, Drethia Parsons, Brenda Shackelford, Carol Sherwood, Cheryl Vanderburg, Chris Washington, and Marcy Woods.

Fifteen year pins were given to David Bridgers, Wes Brown, LeAnn Henderson, Tammy McGuire, Kathy Moseley, Karen Pfiester, Gay Powell, Lora Sanders, Stormie Scott, Scott Scudder, and Georgia Thompson.  Receiving 10 year pins were Jeff Akard, Janell Allen, Melissa Arnold, Rodrick Bills, Melissa Burris, Michael Cowling, Suzanne Culbertson, Matt Denman, Woody Elliott, Lara Fendley, Melissa Gibson, Michelle Loveless, Pam McFarland, Nikki Moss, Monica Richardson, Liz Russell, Stephen Smallwood, William St. John, Brittney White, and Donna Womack.

Others who received their 5 year pins were Shannon Albo, Tiffanie Bell, Stephanie Bishop, Cynthia Bree, Whitney Brook, Teresa Brown, Keitha Chalupa, Nicole Charlie, Deana Dollins, Launa Doyal, Lisa Holbert, Misty Hood, Amanda King, Melissa Lewis, Lisa Martin, Pat Mason, Hillory McDowell, Cheryl Michael, Jeanette Middleton, Tracey Prunty, Ruth Rainey, Wendy Suttle, Patt Swaim, and Ted Weiberg.

Retiring from the district are Shelley Adams, Paul Allen, Bettie Ashby, Sherry Barnes, Sue Carico, Sheila Daughtrey, Karin Douglas, Vickie Hodge, Jeanette Morgan, Weber Morgan, Amy Moss, Cathey Page, Cynthia Thompson, and Jackie Woodfin.

A reception was held at the high school before the banquet for retiring School Board Members Gary Hilliard and Bill Coleman.  Hilliard has served the board for 21 years and Coleman for 12 years.  Both were also recognized at the employee banquet.
