On Friday, May 31, Paris Police responded to the 1000 block of North Main Street, where it was reported that a snow cone stand trailer had been stolen. The owner described the trailer and stated that it was last seen on May 30, 2013. Police are investigating the incident. Police officers also responded to a call of an attempted theft in the 3500 block of Lamar Avenue on Friday. Arrested was 25-year-old Brittany Danielle Watkins and 18-year-old Alyjah Mikayla Jefferies, when it was found that they had stolen merchandise from several retail stores in the area. Jefferies was charged with three counts of theft over $50 but less than $500. Watkins was also charged with the same three theft counts, but additional charges of Failure to Identify and Class C Theft were added when it was found that she had given a false name and had stolen merchandise from another retail store in the same area, according to Paris PD Public Information Officer Curtis Garret.
54-year-old David Charles Neeley was arrested when officers responded to a call of a man with a gun in the 200 block of North Main Street. Officers were given a description of the suspect and when located, police made a search for the weapon. During the search, officers found that Neeley had a baggie containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine in a metal cylinder object in his pocket, according to Officer Garrett. He was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
From May 30th through June 02, Paris Police had a relatively uneventful weekend, responding to 439 calls for service and arresting 23 persons. Of the arrests, 13 were charged with Class C Misdemeanors and 4 were arrested for theft; 3 were arrested on warrants and 1 was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
