Downtown power outage on Thursday caused by DWI accident

A power outage for most of downtown on Thursday was caused by a vehicle accident, after a driver — who was found asleep in the vehicle — veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to Paris PD Public Information Officer Curtis Garrett.

Paris Police vehicleAt around 11am on Thursday, June 6, Paris Police responded to an accident in the 700 block of NW 3rd Street. Officers found that 35-year-old Mandy Nicole Brimhall, of Powderly, was driving a red 1994 GMC pick-up and had veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The investigating officer found that Brimhall was asleep in the vehicle. According to the officer, she admitted to taking a prescribed narcotic. Brimhall was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The accident caused a power outage for most of downtown, but the power was later restored.

Paris Police responded to 124 calls for service and arrested 6 persons on Thursday, June 06. Of the arrests, one was arrested on a parole violation, one was arrested for driving while intoxicated, one was arrested for displaying a ficticious registration, and one was arrested on a class c misdemeanor warrant.
