A pre-paving and traffic safety meeting will be held next week with the contractor and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) representatives to coordinate the resurfacing of US 271 from Loop 286 to FM 3298. TxDOT awarded the construction contract to Richard Drake Construction of Powderly for $3,275,793.23.
“This is for work on US 271 North from the loop to FM 3298 in Powderly,” stated TxDOT Public Information Officer Tray Tuner. ”This will be north and south bound lanes, northbound to FM 1499, and southbound from the loop to FM 3298.”
“We held a safety and pre-paving on Monday and the contractor plans on setting up barricades afterwards. I expect them to begin milling operations in the latter half of this week,” Turner continued.
The contractor will set signs for the project on June 10th. The work will last into August and will consist of removing old asphalt pavement, placing new asphalt pavement on North Main St. south of Stone Ave. and then placing a special wet weather pavement from Stone Ave. to FM 3298.
TxDOT plans most of this resurfacing work to be performed under traffic. There will be alternating lane closures but both the contractor and TxDOT will strive to have all lanes open to traffic by the end of each day. It is very important that all traffic signs are obeyed. There will be flagmen present to hold traffic as needed. For both the safety of the traveling public and the workers on site, TxDOT asks drivers to slow down and avoid distractions.
Access to adjacent properties will be maintained throughout the duration of contract work.
