The Adult Education and Family Literacy Department at Paris Junior College has set several registration sessions to get students started in either General Education Development (GED) or English as a Second Language classes in August, according to school officials.
“Completing paperwork and testing at registration is mandatory before students may sign up for a GED or ESL class,” Public Relations Director Margaret Ruff said. “Also, registration space is limited so students must call ahead to make a reservation.”
Online courses are now an option and a GED fast track course is also offered, allowing students to finish the class in half the normal time. Online GED and ESL classes still have an in-person testing requirement.
All classes are offered at no cost to the student. However, students must commit to attend class each day and meet program requirements to accomplish learning goals. All students must complete a baseline and progress test and adhere to attendance policy rules and department requirements.
Sixteen-year-olds must be court ordered and submit a copy of this document prior to the first class day. Seventeen-year-old students must submit a copy of a school withdrawal form from the last school attended prior to the first class day. Seventeen-year-olds may also be court ordered to attend GED classes at Paris Junior College. Parents or guardians of 16 or 17 year old students must complete release form information prior to the first day of class.
August GED registration will be held each Monday from 6-9 p.m. in the Administration Building, Room 130 (except for the last Monday of the month, when the class is in the Rheudasil Learning Center), and on Fridays 9 a.m.-noon at PJC’s Adult Education Department in the Rheudasil Learning Center, 2400 Clarksville Street. Students must attend one entire session to sign up for GED classes. Arriving ten minutes early to complete paperwork is suggested.
English as a Second Language registration in August will be held each Monday at 6 p.m. or Friday at 9 a.m. at the ESL Room, Givens School, 655 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
