With Fall being considered the second ‘storm season’ by some, meteorologists with The Weather Channel have predicted a chance for thunderstorms today, tonight and tomorrow for Lamar County and the surrounding area.
Some of these storms could be severe, producing damaging winds, hail, heavy rainfall and a slight chance of isolated tornadoes with some storm cells.
There is a 100% chance for rain throughout the afternoon today and tonight, with a 60% chance through the morning on Thursday, according to www.weather.com.
The main concern at this time is heavy downpours of rainfall that could lead to flooding in some localized areas. Paris is under a Flash Flood Watch until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The storm system is a result of the jet stream — which is winds high in the atmosphere that influence large-scale weather patterns — dipping south, combined with the southerly winds importing moist air form the Gulf of Mexico over our region, which is common ingredients for severe storms.
This leads to a humid and unstable atmosphere — common in the second half of October and November, much like the Spring storm season — that is ideal for the creation of thunderstorms.
The system will slowly move east and should be out of our atmosphere by mid-morning on Thursday.
It would be wise to monitor the local weather and keep an eye out for severe thunderstorms that could produce dangerous conditions.
