The Paris Police Department had a busy weekend, responding to 265 ‘calls for service’ and making 23 arrests, according to the department’s public information officer, Curtis Garrett.
One of the arrests was 39-year George Alexander Wells, who was taken into custody on a theft charge when he was observed trying to sell merchandise that he had not paid for, which he’d removed from shelves in a store.
When the police discovered that Wells had at least two prior convictions for theft, the would-be misdemeanor charge (theft of property <$1500) was enhanced to a felony.
He was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
