A four-week long, multi-agency investigation into ‘a rash of ATV thefts in the Blossom and Cunningham communities’ — totaling almost $10,000 in property stolen — ended with the arrest of two teenage juveniles, according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass.
The investigation by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, Lamar County Constable Precinct One, and the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force concluded on Saturday, after receiving four reports of ATV thefts and one report of an attempted theft in the nearly month long investigation. All four of the stolen ATVs were recovered by officers.
On Saturday, July 19, the investigation led Lamar County Sheriff Deputies and Precinct One Constable Travis Rhodes to a residence in the Blossom Community, where the sheriff’s office was investigating a report of a runaway juvenile, as well as another reported stolen ATV in Blossom.
“Deputies located the said juvenile, along with another male juvenile who were both covered in mud,” the sheriff said. “Subsequently, officers spoke with the juveniles in reference to the recent ATV theft and were led to three stolen ATVs hidden in wooded areas of the Blossom Community.”
Sheriff’s deputies and Constable Rhodes recovered three confirmed ATVs reported stolen, after previously recovering the forth ATV in the Cunningham community, and had released it back to the owner.
“Both male juveniles, 15 and 16-years old, were also identified as the male subjects responsible for eluding deputies in the Deport area on stolen ATV’s on July 10,” Cass said.
Both juveniles were arrested and transported to Hunt County Juvenile Detention Center. No names are being released at this time.
The estimated value of the thefts was $ 9700.00 dollars.
