February Continuing Education at Paris Junior College

Providing a solid foundation for accomplishing results through others is the aim of a new continuing education leadership course offered in February at Paris Junior College.

Pyro_PJC_SliderDesigned for new and aspiring leaders, the new course gives learners a quick start toward success through three leadership accelerators: being authentic, bringing out the best in people, and being receptive to feedback. Students must enroll two weeks before class starts so textbooks may be ordered. The class meets from 6-8:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 5-12.

Many other continuing education classes are being offered in February. Unless otherwise noted, the classes meet at the Bobby Walters Workforce Training Center on the north side of the PJC campus.

Health

The Initial Basic Life Support class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 6-7. It will be repeated from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. The American Hearth Association certifies the class.

Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders will be offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4. The American Heart Association certifies the class.

A Clinical Medical Assistant class will meet 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 16 to June 1. Clinical Medical Assistants assist physicians in the office of clinic setting.The Dental Assistant program meets from 6 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Feb. 26 to May 16.

Phlebotomy Basic/Clinical provides training to become a phlebotomist and take the national certification examination. A flexible schedule is required. The course meets from 6-9 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday from Feb. 19 to May 14.

Computer

Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 1-3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 19-28. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.

A Microsoft Excel Intermediate class will meet from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 5-14. Training covers advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and automate worksheet tasks.

Microsoft Word Intermediate will be held from 6-8 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 4-13. Students will learn advanced formatting techniques to enhance documents.

Windows, an Introduction, giving an overview of using the Windows operating system, meets from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday from Feb. 5-14.

The Microsoft Access Essentials database class will meet from 6-8 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 11-20. This program is used to manage data that is organized into lists such as customer information, products, inventory, sales, vendors and more.

Driving

Coaching the Van Driver will meet from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 9. This class meets childcare van safety requirements and covers primary responsibility for safe and reliable transport of passengers of all ages.

The Defensive Driving Course will meet from 6-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 18-19.

The Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets from 4-6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 4-28.

The HazMat Endorsement and Safety Training for CDL will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. This class helps prepare drivers for the HazMat test and reviews commercial truck driving safety procedures.

Professional Truck Driving I is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Feb. 4-15. This class offers hands-on skill and development and instruction coordinated with the Department of Transportation.

Professional Truck Driving II is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Feb. 18-March 1. Basic and advanced skills drill and safe operating practices for shifting and backing are included in this class.

LanguageAn American Sign Language class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 to March 7. This class teaches fingerspelling as well as signs for words and phrases for communication with deaf people.

Parenting

The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.

Photography

The Digital Photography Part 2 class will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 26 to March 7. Topics will cover working with lighting and using controls on their personal camera.
