Zain Syed, a seventh grader at Paris Junior High, earned 2nd place at the East Texas Regional Science Fair for his project titled, “The Influence of Environmental Chemicals on Photosynthesis”. Syed completed in the junior division (grads 6 – 8) in Biological Science.
Specialty awards were given for projects in the water, engineering, use of computers and environmental science. Syed won 1st place from Water Environmental Association of Texas & Texas Water Utilities Association, plus a $300 prize from the American Chemical Society.
He will now advance to the ExxonMobil Texas Science & Engineering Fair on March 27-29 in San Antonio. Syed took first place at the state event last year and was among 300 semifinalists named from more than 6,000 nominees throughout the United States, as a semifinalist in the Broadcom MASTERS, a program of Society for Science & the Public. Gary Stuart, Jodi Andoe and Katharine Bryan are his sponsors.
