Paris Junior College will hold a clinic and tryouts on April 27 for aspiring cheerleaders. The clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and try-outs will follow at 1 p.m. in the Old Gymnasium on the Paris campus, just south of the Administration Building.  Prospective cheerleaders must attend the clinic in order to participate in the tryout.

Pyro_PJC_Slider“We promote PJC spirit at our athletic events while having fun,” said PJC Cheer Coach and Student Activities Coordinator Kristin Irvin. “Anyone who wishes to tryout must meet all the requirements and submit a completed application.”

Clinic participants will learn chants, a cheer, and a dance, then perform what they’ve learned during the tryouts.  Skills required are jumps, flyers and stunters. Those successfully making the squad must be available to practice and attend camp over the summer. If a student is not available in the summer the next highest-ranking participant will replace them.

To participate in the tryouts for the PJC cheerleading squad, the application packet must be completed, all participants must be currently enrolled or accepted to Paris Junior College (acceptance letters must be provided), current and transfer students and incoming freshmen must all have a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and have a completed tryout medical release form signed by a parent or guardian if participant is under 18.  The application packets must be returned by April 24, 2013 by 5 p.m.

For information about the camp, or to obtain a tryout packet, please call Kristin Irvin at 903-782-0403 or e-mail her at kirvin@parisjc.edu.  The packet may also be downloaded from the PJC website at www.parisjc.edu/cheer.
