On Monday morning, Reno police were called to a theft of scrap automotive parts that were taken from behind Advanced Automotive at 5790 Lamar Road in Reno.

RenoAfter taking the report, officers called the local scrap metal dealers and discovered that some auto parts had already been sold earlier on Monday and may match what was already reported stolen.

Officers then went to the metal dealer and matched the items sold with those items reported. There a suspect description was given to police, but while concluding the investigation, the suspect vehicle drove by the location.  It was soon located behind a house in Paris located in the 1400 block of NW 10th Street.

There, the suspect as described was located loading more stolen property into a vehicle he was driving.

More stolen property was identified and the man was placed under arrest.

Arrested was Edward L. Lewis, Jr., 25, of 123 County Road 3223 near Clarksville. He was booked into Lamar County Jail on charges of felony theft of precious metals, since some of the major parts stolen were made of aluminum. Bond was set at $5,000 on two counts, including theft of property over $1,500.

“The investigation is still ongoing, as we are unsure as to the identity of some of the recovered properties’ rightful owners,” Reno police chief Matt Birch said.

In an unrelated case, on Tuesday evening, Reno police located a wanted person at the Country Wood Apartments, l7080 Lamar Road in Reno.

Officers went there looking for a man that had two felony theft warrants. While knocking on the door of the apartment, they observed a man in the apartment looking through a window that matched the man they were looking for.

After making several attempts to get the man to the door and open it for police with no success, the apartment manager was called to unlock the doors. The manager unlocked the exterior locks, but the interior lock was still engaged. Because of the suspect’s continued refusal to open the door, police forced entry to make the arrest.

Arrested was Kevin Daniel Hodges, 28. He had two outstanding felony theft arrest warrants. He was transported to Lamar County Jail where he was booked without further incident.
