Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department is now offering the Heartsaver First Aid CPR & AED (automated external defibrillator) class. In demand by day care workers, church nursery staff and parents wanting to adopt, the course teaches basic first aid and CPR/AED procedures, including first aid skills recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, to those with a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency. It will meet from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4.

PARENTING
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
FITNESS
Aqua Aerobics will provide water exercise designed to develop cardiovascular fitness for all swimming levels, including non-swimmers. The class is offered at 6-7:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 5-July 3, or at 1-2:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, June 6-July 3.
Fitness Swim Program will meet 6-7 a.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from June 4 through August 1, at the PJC Recreation Center. The course will improve swimming efficiency and endurance through drills, sprints, timed and distance swims. Swimming ability required.
Racquetball I teaches the basics of racquetball, including rules and proper gear. The course meets 8:30-10 a.m., Monday and Wednesday, June 5-July 3.
Swimming I will meet 1-2:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, June 5-July 3. Learn basic swimming strokes with an emphasis on safety and comfort in the water.
Learn proper techniques to develop muscular strength, endurance and flexibility in Weight Training I. The course meets 10:30 a.m. to noon, Mondays and Wednesdays June 5-July 3.
HEALTH
The Initial Basic Life Support teaches lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies and meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 7. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders is offered from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
The Dental Assistant program meets from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and three Saturdays, June 18-September 3. The class prepares students for entry level positions or those wanting to pursue a formal dental hygienist program.
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 3-28. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.
Pharmacy Technician/Clinical will be held 6 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, June 17-August 5. This class prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. New to the class is an 80-hour clinical where the student gets to work in a pharmacy setting.
Phlebotomy Basic/Clinical provides training to become a phlebotomist and take the national certification examination. A flexible schedule is required. The course meets from 6-9 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, June 3-August 19.
The Physical Therapy Technician class introduces students to the profession and trains them for an entry-level position as a physical therapy technician. High school diploma or GED required. The class meets from 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from June 17-August 14.
COMPUTER
A Microsoft Excel Intermediate class will meet from 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 4-13. Training covers advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and automate worksheet tasks.
Microsoft Word Intermediate will be held from 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, June 3-12. Students will learn advanced formatting techniques to enhance documents.
QuickBooks Level 1: Basic Skills will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday, June 11-25. This is a popular record keeping software used by small businesses today.
Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 1-3 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, June 10-19. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.
Windows Essentials introduces operating systems and basic usage of Windows. The class meets from 1-3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, June 18-27.
DRIVING
A Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets 4-6 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, June 3-27.
The Defensive Driving Course will meet from 6-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, June 17-18.
The Flatbed Securement & Safety Workshop will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The course helps drivers understand how to safely load, inspect and secure several different types of cargo hauled on flatbed trucks.
Professional Truck Driving I is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 3-14. This class offers hands-on skill and development and instruction coordinated with the Department of Transportation.
Professional Truck Driving II is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 17-28. Basic and advanced skills drill and safe operating practices for shifting and backing are included in this class.
The HazMat Endorsement and Safety Training for CDL will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. This class helps prepare drivers for the HazMat test and reviews commercial truck driving safety procedures.
PHOTOGRAPHY
A Digital Photography Basic class will be offered from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, June 11-20. This is an introductory course to digital imaging.
PERSONAL ENRICHMENT
Ceramics I introduces basic clay processes, gaze formations, and kiln, raku and stoneware firing techniques. The class meets from 6-9 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, June 5-July 3.
Ceramics II teaches advanced clay and glaze formulation techniques and introduces the potter’s wheel. The class meets from 6-9 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, June 5-July 3.
Advanced Ceramics integrates study with hands-on experience in the studio. The class meets from 6-9 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, June 5-July 3.

The Child Development Associate class meets from 5:30-10 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, June 4-September 12. The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is awarded to individuals that have completed 120 hours of classroom training as set forth by the Council for Professional Recognition. The CDA credential will be awarded upon completion for a successful site evaluation and exam.
