On routine patrol in Blossom on July 12, Lamar County Sheriff Deputies, Johnathan Smith and Sheridan Jones, initiated a traffic stop on a male and female subject in the 500 block of Front Street.
The driver, Jeffrey Charles Fendley, 43, was found to be operating the vehicle without a valid Texas drivers’ license or insurance on the vehicle. A further check showed Fendley had a warrant out of Lamar County for a Class A Theft charge.
During the vehicle inventory, deputies located a large amount of individually packaged narcotics — namely methamphetamine. Deputies seized more than $1,000 of currency and a 2003 Chevrolet pickup belonging to Fendley, the sheriff said.
Fendley was arrested on the following charges:
- Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance PG 1 >=4g <200g (First Degree Felony)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)

Deputies also discovered a female passenger, Jessica Nicole Mitchell, 25, to be in possession of narcotics while an infant was present in the vehicle when the traffic stop was made.
Child Protective Services were called to the scene to take custody of the child and Mitchell was arrested on the following charges:
- Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance PG 1 >=4g <200g
- 2 Counts Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 <1g (State Felony)
“This is good police work with an officer initiating in activity that resulted in removing a large amount of drugs from the street,” the sheriff said. “This also resulted in getting the child removed from this environment and got her safe.”
Both Fendley and Mitchell are in the Lamar County Jail, with Fendley’s bond and fines totaling $78,200 and Mitchell’s totaling $85,400.
