Below is a game-for-game tournament breakdown of the Paris LadyCats in the Prosper Basketball Tournament over the weekend, compiled by Coach Ted Mackey.
Game 1
We were matched up against The Colony. Early on we were able to apply pressure that lead to easy opportunities and a 13-10 1st qtr lead. Foul trouble on Nish Robins in the 2nd qtr enabled The Colony to take control of the game and never looked back. Leading Scorer was Paige Dixon with 8. Final score Paris 39 The Colony 73.
Game 2
We played a sound Gunter team that was seasoned in every aspect of the game. Our pressure didn’t bother their guards as much as we would have liked. Jazz Pipkins made a half court buzzer-beater right at the half, making the score 27-31 – Gunter. We were unable to keep up with their offensive efficiency in the 2nd half. Raven Jordan hit 4 3′s and finished with 14 pts. Final score Paris 41 Gunter 65.
Game 3
Earlier in the season, we played Aubrey and defeated them 42-37. Our LadyCats showed signs of maturity in this game by beating them by 15 points. The key to our success was defense, which is always the key. We were also able to shoot the ball with accuracy from the field. Nish Robins posted another double-double with 15 pts and 13 rebs. Final Score 47-32.
Game 4
In our final game of the tournament, we faced another team that was rich in basketball tradition in Ponder. Outside of some minor defensive lapses, we played them well enough to win the game. Our ’Achilles’ heel in this game was our inability to finish easy opportunities in the paint. Final score Paris 33 Ponder 45. Luey Bronner finished with 10 points, 8 Rebs, 2 Stls and was 4 of 5 from the Line. Outside of those stats, Luey did exactly what we as a staff asked of her by controlling the tempo and attacking the paint without regret.
